INDONESIA FLUE GAS DESULFURIZATION MARKET FORECAST 2023-2030

SCOPE OF THE REPORT

Indonesia Flue Gas Desulfurization Market by Technology (Wet FGD Systems, Spray Dry FGD Systems, Dry FGD Systems) Market by Application (Power Generation, Chemical, Iron & Steel, Cement Manufacturing, Other Applications)

MARKET OVERVIEW

The Indonesia flue gas desulfurization market growth is anticipated to progress at a CAGR of 6.58% during the forecast period, 2023-2030, and is expected to garner a revenue of $754.42 million by 2030.

Indonesia has taken resolute action to address its air quality issues by implementing strict governmental regulations aimed at reducing sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions within the nation. These regulations represent a significant milestone in the country’s dedication to environmental sustainability and public health. Through the imposition of more rigorous limits on SO2 emissions, Indonesia aims to mitigate the adverse impacts of air pollution on both the environment and its population. In its NDC (Nationally Determined Contributions), Indonesia commits to lowering greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 41% from baseline levels by 2030, with an unconditional goal of 29%. In response to these heightened regulatory measures, there is an anticipated increase in demand for Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) systems.

Regarding economic productivity, the manufacturing sector played a pivotal role in the nation’s economic expansion. Moreover, Indonesia has exhibited significant growth in both the automotive industry, with a year-on-year increase of 10.67%, and the basic metals industry, showing a 14.8% year-on-year growth. The total exports of the industrial sector reached $206.35 billion in 2022, marking a 16.45% increase from the previous year. This burgeoning industrial growth is generating a heightened demand for energy, leading to the increased use of fossil fuels, and consequently, higher emissions, including sulfur dioxide (SO2). In response to environmental concerns and the need to comply with international emission standards, the country is gearing up to surge the adoption of Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) systems within its industries.

The Indonesia flue gas desulfurization market segmentation includes application and technology. The application segment includes power generation, chemical, iron & steel, cement manufacturing, and other applications.

Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) is a crucial component of the iron and steel industry, as it effectively mitigates the environmental impact associated with sulfur dioxide emissions during steel production. Since steel manufacturing involves the combustion of fossil fuels and raw materials containing sulfur, substantial quantities of sulfur dioxide are discharged into the atmosphere. FGD technology plays a pivotal role in reducing these emissions by capturing sulfur dioxide from the exhaust gases before its release into the environment. This process involves chemical reactions that transform sulfur dioxide into gypsum, a marketable byproduct.

By incorporating FGD systems, steel plants adhere to stringent environmental regulations, improve air quality, and promote sustainable operations. Furthermore, the utilization of gypsum, a valuable resource in construction and agriculture, offers an additional economic incentive for the integration of FGD technology within the iron and steel industry.

With regard to the chemical application, the FGD technology relies on a chemical reaction that occurs when the hot exhaust gases from the coal-fired boiler come into contact with limestone. This reaction effectively eliminates 92% of the sulfur dioxide from the flue gas while transforming the limestone into Calcium Sulphite. In practical terms, the flue gas is extracted from the boiler and directed into the absorber tower through the FGD ductwork using a booster fan.

For all FGD processes (excluding the SWFGD method), substantial quantities of chemical sorbents (such as limestone, lime, magnesium-enhanced lime, calcium hydroxide, etc.) are necessary. Consequently, a significant amount of capital is essential for the procurement and transportation of these chemical sorbents, as well as for securing storage space. Additionally, most of these processes result in solid waste, such as gypsum, which requires storage space and involves costly disposal.

Some of the prominent companies in the Indonesia flue gas desulfurization market are John Wood Group plc, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Ltd, Thermax Ltd, etc.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd manufactures industrial machinery and equipment. It is engaged in shipbuilding alongside manufacturing internal combustion, turbines, aircraft, and automobile engines. Also, it provides a diverse range of products for air-conditioning systems, steel structures, industrial & general machinery, environmental equipment, power plants, and chemical plants.
