Additionally, natural gas is also utilized extensively in re-injection operations to maintain oil reservoir pressure. The United Arab Emirates has the seventh-largest natural gas reserves in the world as of 2020. The total proved reserves of the country equated to 5.90 trillion cubic meters in the same year.

The United Arab Emirates discovered a new natural gas deposit with 2.3 trillion cubic meters of shallow gas resources in February 2020. This gas field discovery was the world’s biggest since 2005 and has the potential to help the UAE achieve gas self-sufficiency, decreasing its dependency on neighboring Qatar for fuel.

Since LNG is highly flammable and major exporting takes place by the sea, several regulations must be followed by the players. Key regulatory authorities governing the LNG market in the country are the Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP), the Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure, and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
