GLOBAL FIXED LTE MARKET FORECAST 2019-2027

Inkwood research estimates that the market for Fixed LTE will grow with an expected CAGR of 22.22% during the forecast period and will reach revenue of $103.47 billion by 2027. For the market study, the base year considered is 2018, whereas the forecasted period is between 2019 and 2027. Providing rural locations with high-speed broadband had been a tough task for the service providers. The tall trees and dense forests interfere with fixed wireless broadband connectivity. The unpredictability of the soil composition while building broadband fiber infrastructure also has been one of the most daunting concerns. However, the fixed wireless access technologies and products have evolved and have made it a viable alternative to the traditional copper (DSL, DOCSIS)/fibre used for delivering high-speed broadband to rural locations, by addressing several challenges, ease of deployments, including radio size, interference from other wireless signals and reliability.

One of the most significant markets for fixed LTE in rural areas is the United States, according to a study on broadband growth in micropolitan, rural, and metropolitan areas in the United States. The final analyzed result was that while the micropolitan and metropolitan had a higher penetration in broadband, the most significant gains during the past two years were in rural areas.

Residential type is the leading segment in terms of revenue in the global fixed LTE market with around 72.96% market share in 2018. Customers are demanding for high-speed internet connectivity, wherein there is restricted access to technology by the customers, in turn, increasing the growth of fixed LTE in residential areas. The service providers are expanding the area of expertise toward fixed LTE technology, to tap into the potential consumer’s base. Companies are rigorously investing in fixed wireless connections, as there is an increasing demand for high-speed internet connections in the United States. For instance, T-Mobile, in March 2019, launched fixed wireless broadband service pilot for 50,000 homes in a move that would connect the subscribers with a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service on T-Mobile’s LTE network.

On the other hand, the global fixed LTE market growth is restricted by network performance, which is a growing concern of fixed LTE, along with geographical challenge, rules, and regulations. The main challenge of deploying fixed LTE is the spectrum being used. There has been negative feedback regarding network speeds. Customers using Cell C fixed LTE were hit by slow download speeds in 2018. For instance, B315 Huawei router and on a 100 GB package, the speed of downloads were slumped from 35 Mbps to 10 Mbps. Although Cell C responded by making some link corrections, such incidents are likely to affect future deployments.

Report scope of global fixed LTE market covers segmentation analysis of user type and solution type.

Market by User Type:

  • Residential
  • Commercial

Market by Solution Type:

  • LTE Infrastructure
  • Other Types of Solutions (Indoor CPE, Outdoor CPE)

The total market revenue is calculated by the adoption of fixed LTE across various verticals.

On the basis of geography, the global Fixed LTE market has been segmented into four major regions such as:

  • North America: the United States & Canada
  • Europe: United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Russia & Rest of Europe
  • Asia Pacific: China, India, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Rest of Asia Pacific
  • Rest of World: Latin America, Middle East & Africa

Geographically, Asia Pacific is the largest and fastest market, with a market share of 45.00% in terms of revenue in 2018. The highest volume of fixed LTE connections is in Asia-Pacific, which can be attributed to the focus of governments to upgrade the existing infrastructure and a large population using internet. The Asia–Pacific region is transforming the economies by digitalization of the enterprises and societies. The adoption and the development of next-generation technologies such as IoT, artificial intelligence, cloud, and big data is increasing. It is enabling opportunities, solving unique regional challenges, and increased efficiency in business. Several governments in this region are taking initiatives to develop and improve their fixed LTE connections. Another major reason attributed is the provision of faster broadband speeds and the development of a smart city. As a result, all provinces and major cities are actively investing in public Wi-Fi infrastructure, as well as improvement in commercial network infrastructure. For instance, New fund will be established with plans to reach 50% adoption rate of the super-fast speeds for targeting projects and technologies that can provide data rates of 10 Gbps by 2022 was announced by the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT.

The global fixed LTE market has been segmented on the basis of user type and solution type. The user type is further sub-segmented into the residential type and commercial type. Whereas, the market for Fixed LTE by solution type is divided into LTE infrastructure and other type of solutions.

The market has the presence of several players, and some of the key players involved in the global fixed LTE market are:

  • Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.
  • NETGEAR Inc.
  • Sagemcom SAS
  • Cisco Systems, Inc.
  • AT&T Inc.
  • Others

In November 2018, Huawei released CloudAIR3.0 solution, which will help operators to run a smooth evolution of full spectrum in the LTE/5G. The solution provides air interface resources, sharing in-depth and multi-dimensional convergence. In February 2019, Zyxel Communications expanded its In-Building Solutions and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) along with the outdoor and indoor Cat. ZTE Corporation, in collaboration with Du, launched 5G Wireless Router in the Middle East, 128 maximum Wi-Fi users can access the 5G network on ZTE 5G Indoor Router MC801 at the same time.
